To Volunteer

Our mission is to bring together, in small, intimate settings, authors, readers of all ages, novice writers, listeners, and learners.

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO DO?

 

Be a GREETER at the Town Center

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome our guests to the town and to the Festival and have them sign in.
  • Hand out programs and Festival Evaluations.
  • Answer questions about venue locations, programs, book signings, workshop and banquet registration, etc.
  • Accept completed Festival Evaluations.

Needed Skills and Preparation:

  • A friendly, welcoming demeanor.
  • Attend an orientation session.
  • Become familiar with the CMLF events and venue locations.
  • Become familiar with Burnsville locations for lunch or refreshments.

 

Be a SESSION COORDINATOR at various CMLF venues

Responsibilities:

  • Check in at Town Center Volunteer Table 30 minutes prior to the session(s) you are coordinating.
  • Check for schedule/venue changes, pick up Festival Evaluation forms, and bottled water for the author.
  • Be at your session venue 15 minutes prior to the scheduled event.
  • Start on time, introduce the author using ONLY the script provided at orientation.
  • End on time, thanking the author and audience.
  • Complete and return the Session Coordinator Evaluation.

Needed Skills and Preparation:

  • Friendly, welcoming demeanor.
  • Good speaking and reading voice – ability to project your voice.
  • Attend an orientation session.
  • Read the Volunteer Information packet in full.
  • Practice your author introduction to be sure you know how to pronounce anything unusual.
  • Become familiar with the CMLF program and events.

 

Be a VENUE COORDINATOR at all CMLF venues

Responsibilities:

  • Pre-festival contact with venue contacts to confirm arrangements.
  • Retrieve from storage and deliver boxes of materials and supplies as well as venue set-up materials.  Check that venue set-up materials are ready and make any necessary minor repairs.
  • Set-up as specified at each venue and check second day to confirm set-up is still in order.
  • Check venues throughout the event and solve any problems that arise with set up.

Needed Skills and Preparation:

  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with venue contacts and key personnel of the CMLF.
  • Ability to transport, lift and move boxes and other supplies from storage to truck to venues and back.  Ability to set up chairs, tables, lectern, etc. and to return venues to order following the event.
  • Attend an orientation session.

Orientation 2023

Our one hour Orientation is essential for your success. Please plan to attend one of the sessions listed below . You’ll be given your assignment,  updated festival schedule and complete details about your role.

Orientation dates :

September 2, 2023. 10-11:00am

September 7, 2023.  12-1:00 pm
